Who we are

The people behind Alexanders

At the heart of Alexanders are the people.

We are a family-run business and that family feeling is something we’ve always wanted to hold onto. Our team is a big part of what makes Alexanders what it is — friendly faces, familiar names and people who genuinely enjoy getting to know our customers.

Some of our customers have been coming through our doors for years. In fact, it’s not unusual to see several generations of the same family shopping with us.

For us, that’s what makes being a local business so special. We’re not just here to serve our customers — we’re part of the same community too.

How it started

Rooted in Ballybofey

Alexanders began in the 1960s as a small family-run supermarket in the heart of Ballybofey.

Over the years, the business has grown and changed alongside the community. What started with groceries and everyday essentials has evolved to include hardware, coal, animal feeds, gifts, homeware, books, local products — and in 2021, The Coffee Loft joined us, bringing freshly brewed coffee, breakfast, lunch and plenty of home baking under the same roof.

While the shop may look very different from those early days, one thing hasn’t changed: Alexanders has always been about Ballybofey and the people who call it home.

We’re proud of our roots, proud of how far we’ve come, and excited about what comes next.

“The best part of the shop has always been the people who give it its warmth.”

A note from the team

What matters to us

A friendly face, a local touch

We believe there’s something special about shopping local.

It might be a familiar face behind the counter, a quick chat while you’re picking up your shopping, discovering something made by a local producer, or sitting down with a coffee and a slice of homemade cake.

It’s those little things that matter.

We know we can’t be the biggest shop, and we don’t want to be. We want to be your local — a place where you can find the everyday essentials alongside a few unexpected treasures, enjoy good food and coffee, and always feel welcome when you walk through the door.

A friendly face. A local touch. A little bit of Ballybofey.
